Paul Grey
Health & Wellbeing Coach
Paul Grey is a highly experienced Health & Wellbeing Coach with almost 20 years in the fitness industry, specialising in supporting individuals living with chronic health conditions. He is a Chronic Conditions Specialist with extensive experience in delivering tailored exercise programmes for people with a wide range of long-term health challenges, particularly older adults.

Paul discovered his passion for this work during a university placement at a local sports centre, where he was first introduced to exercise referral schemes. Since then, he has dedicated his career to helping people improve their health, mobility, and confidence through safe, effective movement.
Throughout his career, Paul has worked extensively in local authority and NHS-led Exercise Referral Programmes, before transitioning into more community-based roles in recent years. Since joining Active Families North East in February 2023, he has primarily delivered the Otago Strength and Balance Programme, commissioned by Sunderland City Council, and also leads on the organisation’s Weight Management Programme.
Paul holds a degree in Sport and Exercise Development, alongside a vast portfolio of advanced qualifications, including:
• Level 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation
• Level 4 Obesity and Diabetes Management
• Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation
• Level 4 Chronic Respiratory Disease
These qualifications, among others, allow Paul to deliver high-quality, safe, and effective programmes that are tailored to individual health needs, particularly for those living with complex or long-term conditions.
Outside of work, Paul is a dedicated Sunderland AFC season ticket holder and proudly coaches his stepson’s football team, Consett AFC Juniors Reds. He enjoys cycling, swimming, and camping, and makes the most of every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with his family.
Paul brings not only deep expertise but also a warm, approachable style that puts participants at ease. He is passionate about helping people feel stronger, healthier, and more confident—whatever their starting point.
